Video Encounter: The Happy Hollows "Death to Vivek Kemp"

The music video for The Happy Hollows "Death to Vivek Kemp" was released today. It was directed by Ben Hoste, who also directed The Voyeurs' video for "The Night I Died," which is somewhere on this blog if you look for it.

From Ben:

"I was super excited to direct a music video for The Happy Hollows’ song “Death to Vivek Kemp”. It was released today and premiered on The Daily Swarm where they said some nice things about it (which is appreciated), so head over there and check it out. It was a pleasure working with Sarah, Charlie, and Chris, they are some of the friendliest and most talented musicians I know, and at this point I feel as though I know them intimately having spent hundreds of hours drawing each one of them over and over and over and over. Hope you enjoy it and buy their record! It’s fantastic."

Notes from last night's Henry Clay People residency

  • Ran into Evan from Steel Train outside Spaceland. They're almost done recording their album and will be on tour after that, with California shows in late May.
  • Ben Hoste screen printed the HCP residency poster and is selling them at the shows.
  • I really like The World Record. Besides the songs, I especially liked how they started their midnight set 10 minutes early.
  • No line this time, but I did get there 45 minutes earlier than last week.
  • Last night was my 25th show of 2009, not including SXSW. How did that happen.

Video Encounter: The Voyeurs "The Night I Died"

The Voyeurs are a band you should know about. The video is Ben Hoste's directorial debut. "Playing with time and perspective it's certain that you will want to watch the video more than once." For Ben's concert photography, check out his blog.

What 2 Go 2: February 24 to March 1, 2009

February 24-25: I'm in Texas. Vigils will be held.

February 26: The Movies at Space 15 Twenty (across from Amoeba Records). Space 15 Twenty is a "new retail experiment" in Hollywood. Bands play in the early evening at their Courtyard every Thursday. They also have book signings, film screenings, etc. I've never been and I may have to miss this one too. The Movies are on at 8.

February 27: Exposure: A Photo Show at Where in Griffith Park. Photo browsing until 9 (including prints from Ben Hoste), bands from 9 to midnight. Opening night features acoustic sets from Le Switch, Manhattan Murder Mystery, and a Special Guest. Miniature version of flyer below.

February 28: Ra Ra Riot at the El Rey. I don't know what I can add to what's already been written and said about Ra Ra Riot, but perhaps no one has mentioned that they uniformly take talented bands on tour with them, like Princeton, So Many Dynamos, Tussle, and Walter Meego.

March 1: The First AC Indie night at Air Conditioned Lounge in Venice. One Trick Pony, World Record, and Parson Redheads are playing. Set times are 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30. This one's a must see.
